Recall News: Airbag Packs, Turkey Sausage, Cashew Split
Airbag Packs Recalled Due to Risk of Injury
On July 9, 2015, Black Diamond, Pieps, and POC Brand JetForce Avalanche Airbag Packs were recalled. This was due to the fact that the motor can malfunction and prevent the airbag from deploying, increasing the risk of injury or death in the event of a snow avalanche. About 1,000 units were part of this recall.
Description: These packs were manufactured between October 2, 2014 and March 3, 2015. The manufacture date code ranges from 14275 to 15077 and can be found inside the front pocket label. The JetForce Technology logo is on the left shoulder strap and an instruction label can be found on the inside flap of the back panel. The Black Diamond models are black and fire red, the Pieps models are black with yellow or black with chili red, and the POC models are orange. So far no incidents or injuries were reported dealing with these products.
So, how are these companies remedying the situation? They suggest and urge that consumers immediately stop using the recalled airbag packs and contact Black Diamond for instructions on returning the product for a free repair. You can contact Black Diamond Inc. at (800) 775-5552 from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday.
These products were sold at specialty outdoor retail stores nationwide and online at www.blackdiamondequipment.com and were manufactured in the USA.
Turkey Sausage Products Recalled Due to Possible Contamination
On July 10, 2015, Gourmet Culinary Solutions recalled approximately 495 pounds of turkey sausage products that were part of a frozen entrée that also contains French toast sticks and peaches. The reason is due to the fact that they could be contaminated with foreign materials, announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. The description includes 8.25 oz. compartment trays of “Golden Gourmet French Toast Sticks with Turkey Patty & Peaches.”
The reason for the recall is because the products subject to recall may contain pieces of a conveyer belt inside the packaging. Individual entrees were distributed to older adults in Georgia as part of the Meals on Wheels program, so it especially important that they are not consumed. The problem was discovered in 10-lb. bulk packages of the French toast sticks by a customer of the ingredient manufacturer. The company has received no reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.
Consumers or media with questions about the recall can contact Brian Zulaica, director of Gourmet Culinary Solutions, at (770) 725-4620.
Cashew Split Recalled Because of Possible Health Risk
On July 10, 2015, Maya Overseas Foods Inc. recalled approximately 8,000 lbs. of Cashew Split because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. The Cashew Split in particular was distributed between February 18, 2015 and March 20, 2015.
To date, no illnesses have been reported. Those who have purchased this product are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For those with questions, they may contact the company at 718-894-5145. (3)
